WASHINGTON D.C., August 7, 2008 -- Southbay Truck Center Service has been selected for the 2008 Best of Carson Award in the Repair Shops category by the U.S. Local Business Association (USLBA).

The USLBA "Best of Local Business" Award Program recognizes outstanding local businesses throughout the country. Each year, the USLBA identifies companies that they believe have achieved exceptional marketing success in their local community and business category. These are local companies that enhance the positive image of small business through service to their customers and community.

Various sources of information were gathered and analyzed to choose the winners in each category. The 2008 USLBA Award Program focused on quality, not quantity. Winners are determined based on the information gathered both internally by the USLBA and data provided by third parties.

James P. Bernacchi Appointed President of BusWest April 17th, 2008
Carson , California, April 17, 2008 — Today, BusWest, headquartered in Carson, CA, announces the appointment of James P. Bernacchi to President effective immediately. Bernacchi brings years of executive level bus industry experience to BusWest. With proven discipline in finance, service, sales and operations Bernacchi will be instrumental in continuing BusWest’s development as the leading provider of school, transit, tour and commercial shuttle buses in the SouthWest.

“We are pleased Jim has accepted this position at BusWest”, said Conan Barker, owner of the company, “his experience as a leader in the bus industry is unmatched and the company will clearly benefit from his depth of experience and his strong focus on customer support and operational quality.” BusWest has enjoyed rapid growth since beginning operations in 2000. In 2006, BusWest secured the California State Contract for Paratransit Buses and delivers hundreds of buses under South Coast Air Quality Management Districts (AQMD) programs. Also in 2006, BusWest became the exclusive distributor in California for Thomas Built Buses with the acquisition of California Bus Sales. The company provides buses to school districts, transit agencies, tour companies, hotels, airport operations and many other niche markets.

Bernacchi’s experience in the bus industry includes fifteen years with Motor Coach Industries, holding positions from VP of Manufacturing through President and CEO. Most recently Jim served as Senior Vice President and General Manger of NABI, a leader in the transit bus industry and a sister company to school bus builder, Blue Bird. He has also held senior executive level positions with ABC Bus Companies and several others in the bus industry. Prior to joining the bus industry Jim spent 12 years working his way up through the organization at Jeep, Inc, finishing as Manager of Operations.

“The opportunity to apply 30 years industry experience across the entire business is exciting,” mentioned Bernacchi, “BusWest has a good reputation for providing value and there are many opportunities to further improve our sales and customer support so the future looks very bright. With the commitment of our parent company and Conan’s continued support, I look forward to making BusWest the most respected bus distributor in the southwest.”

In a separate matter BusWest also announced that it will upgrade its parts and service support in Southern California with an additional bus service facility in Fontana staffed entirely by BusWest employees. The new facility will stock a wide variety of parts, which will expedited service as well as same-day and next-day parts deliveries to customers in the Inland Empire. That facility will be fully staffed and operational by June 1 st according to Bernacchi.

BusWest has five locations in California and Nevada and sells and services buses by Thomas Built Buses, Starcraft, Caio North America, Tiffany Coach and DesignLine International. BusWest serves customers in California, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico and Hawaii.

BusWest is the passenger transportation equipment division of Los Angeles Truck Centers LLC headquartered in Whittier, California. Los Angeles Truck Centers distributes commercial vehicles for Freightliner, Sterling, Western Star, Autocar, Hino, Isuzu and Mitsubishi.

The Miracle Bus January 14, 2008 By a satisfied customer.
"Two weeks ago after church we had a dedication for our new school bus.  The story behind the bus is somewhat a miracle in itself.  A little over a year ago it was decided that our Kohala Mission School needed a new school bus - the old one was breaking down and simply wasn't running like it used to.  A seed donation was given and slowly the process of raising funds began.  Church members tried writing to various organizations to see if they could help, but got turned down every time.

Fast forward to the middle of December, with one week of school left before the holidays the bus breaks down and arrangements are made at the last minute for teachers and staff to take students to and from school.  The church is asked to pray, and the next week we learn that our prayers are answered as the last of the money is raised and the bus is ordered.  One of our church members had been researching buses for quite a while and found the perfect one for us - a brand new 2005 bus (which met all Hawaii standards) sitting in a saleslot in California.

However, once the bus is purchased we find out that there is no room on the barge for the bus to arrive in time for the spring semester of school.  Once again our church members drop to their knees and wouldn't you know - they company finds an opening and the bus is set to arrive on Dec 31.

Next, two of our church elders make the drive to Hilo to pick up the bus, but along the way stop at the county offices and find out that taxes and fees will amount to $2000 - the landed cost of the bus which was more than we expected.  They didn't have the shipping documents with them at the time and would have to return later.  Again our church is asked to pray that God will provide the additional money.

When our church elder returned to the county office, a friendly clerk told him that since the bus wasn't brand new (a 2007 model as opposed to 2005) that we wouldn't have to pay the taxes and fees on it.  A call of the DMV confirmed it and he left with our new school bus totally paid for!

Last week the students took their first ride on the bus (Roland surprised them one morning by going along for the ride) and loved it!  It's amazing to see how the Lord works.  During the dedication our elder mentioned how many times he felt like a "doubting Thomas" so everyone got a good laugh when it was pointed out that the bus was "Thomas built"."
